Terrorism is a phenomenon as old as human history.
The dispersion and intensity of terrorist operations in certain parts of the world suggests the hypothesis that geographical factors and components can be the basis of terrorist thoughts or operations. Considering this premise, this research tries to analyze the geographical bases of terrorism.
Due to the lack of a specific theory in this regard, this research was conducted in the context of qualitative research using the "ground theory" method. For this purpose, seven main parts of geography including economic geography, social geography, natural geography, cultural geography, security geography, political geography and finally geopolitics were identified.
In the next step, the indicators of each sector that play an effective role in the formation and development of terrorism were extracted and finally, using the qualitative content analysis software "Atlas T", the theoretical model of the relationship between geography and terrorism was drawn as the most important finding of this research.
Serious and deep attention to the relationship between geography and terrorism, especially in the field of political geography, recognition of the influential indicators in each sector and the relative clarification of the influence of each dimension of geography in the development of the phenomenon of terrorism are other results of this research. Forecasting and consequently the limited control and management of terrorism by paying attention to geo-political indicators can also be one of the practical results of using the mentioned model.
