Analyzing Donald Trump's Negotiation Approach Using evaluation assertion analysis

Abstract

In the present era, content analysis of politicians' statements in cyberspace such as Twitter, speeches, etc. helps to understand their personality and decisions. In recent years, Twitter has been part of the government's information channel in various fields. This article also examines the negotiation discourse of Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, to reveal his decision-making process and negotiation method. Donald Trump created an unprecedented model in public diplomacy due to his unique communication style and extensive use of social network content such as Twitter. Among this method for public diplomacy, the transmission of warnings and messages from Donald Trump's negotiating personality can also be found. Negotiation, as one of the main pillars of modern diplomacy, has had a special place in Donald Trump's political discourse. In this study, quantitative content analysis using the evaluatin assertion analysis method has been used. This paper attempts to explain Donald Trump's negotiation style by automatically extracting concepts, statistically analyzing word frequency, and identifying linguistic patterns in a set of text documents. In obtaining tweets, the coefficients of the evaluation assertion anallysis method were used in Python and natural language to perform the work more accurately. The theoretical model of this research is a combination of the psychological theory of narcissism and the carrot-stick political behavioral theory. This theoretical model explains the results obtained from the research, which was extracted from Trump's tweets about North Korea.
